Genetic counselling before and during pregnancy
A conversation with a specialist about inherited conditions, screening tests and what the results mean for your family.
· 3 min read

Who may benefit
Couples who are related by blood (cousin marriage), have a family history of an inherited condition such as thalassaemia, had a previous baby with a birth difference, or have had repeated miscarriages. Mothers over 35 may also be offered extra screening.
What happens in a session
The specialist takes a family history, explains the chances in plain language, and suggests tests if useful — for example carrier tests, first-trimester screening or detailed scans. You decide what to do; the counsellor's job is to inform and support, not to decide for you.
