At home
Rest, drink plenty — water, oral saline, soup, fruit juice — and take paracetamol for fever. Do not take ibuprofen, aspirin or other painkillers, which can increase bleeding. Check a blood count (CBC) as your doctor advises.
Come to emergency if you notice
Severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the gums or nose, black stools, extreme tiredness or restlessness, cold clammy hands and feet, or passing very little urine — especially in the 1–2 days after the fever settles.
